    Exhausts for historic racing

Last month, two major historic racing events took place, with several BTB customers represented at both.

At the Goodwood Revival festival, held at the iconic track on 12-14 September, a series of historic races are held, each with their own specific class of car. In the Chichester Cup specifically for pre-1964 Formula Junior cars, Andrew Hibberd finished fourth in the race after qualifying fifth in his 1962 Lotus 22.

During the Glover Trophy, a race for 1.5 litre F1 and Tasman cars built between 1961 and 1965, a storming drive saw BTB customer Alex Morton charge to 5th at the finish in his 1961 Lotus Climax 21 after qualifying 10th.

The event also features historic touring and sportscars with the Sussex Trophy featuring sportscars from 1955 to 1960. Nick Leventis and Bobby Verdon-Roe captured pole in their Ferrari Dino and finished second in the race.

Arguably the fiercest contests of the weekend were the two part, Pro-Am races for the St. Mary’s Trophy which featured touring cars from the 1950s driven by various well known racers such as 2013 BTCC champion Andrew Jordan, together with other BTCC champions including Matt Neal, Jason Plato and Gordon Shedden alongside other high profile drivers such as David Brabham, Emanuele Pirro, Anthony Reid and Steve Soper. Andrew Jordan qualified on pole in the Jordan family owned 1958 Austin A40 and finished just behind Reid and Pirro in 3rd place in the race. His father Mike managed to reverse the family fortunes in race two, clinching the win after qualifying second in the rapid BTB equipped A40.

The historic Spa 6hrs meeting, held on September 20 and 21, saw another array of pristine classic machinery take to the fearsome Belgian track. In the under 2 litres touring car race, Neil Brown and Richard Dutton qualified 3rd in their Lotus Cortina, finishing second in the race.

Several BTB customers took part in the main 6hr race, but a late rule change meant that several of the 10 Ford GT40s entered needed to have silencers fitted. Within just 3 weeks, BTB managed to turn round the appropriate solutions for all of their customers, allowing the Voyazides/Hadfield machine to claim second place in the ultimately rain shortened race.
