    BTB win in BTCC

    BTB Exhausts Newsletter

The start of August is just about the midpoint of the racing season, and high time for a review of how some of BTB’s customers have been getting on. The highlight of the National racing season has to be the first win in the British Touring car championship for Andrew Jordan. BTB have supplied Andrew’s father Mike Jordan for many years and it was appropriate that Andrew’s first win in the category came on Father’s day.. BTB have helped to make the exhaust note on the turbocharged Vectra more exciting for the popular televised championship, although most of the coverage of the Croft race centred on the battle for second place as Jordan junior cruised away in the lead. The win for the new generation of Jordan was a welcome reward for the hardworking Eurotech Racing team who have had a difficult year as they get to grips with this new generation of Touring Car.

BTB provide exhausts for powerful piston engines...

BTB’s most powerful exhaust record has been broken! Previously the most powerful piston engine that BTB had made a set of bespoke pipes for was on a Curtiss-Wright R-1820 Cyclone 9 cylinder radial engined Grumman F4F Wildcat WWII Fighter plane. Now that record has been eclipsed…. by a car. Not just any car though, but the first prototype of a new twin turbocharged supercar. This completely road legal monster recently recorded 933bhp and 874 lb-ft of torque at its rear hubs. With CFD optimised aerodynamics the Hennessey Venom GT will probably generate as much negative lift at 260mph as the old Wildcat generated positive lift.

Mention of the Wildcat leads tenuously on to another successful BTB customer. The Wildcat also saw service with the RAF, where it was known as the Martlet. A certain Martin Short of Rollcentre Racing started his driving career (after leaving the RAF) in a kit car called a Martlet. Martin, now a fully fledged sportscar driving star has returned to the British GT series in one of the Moslers that his Rollcentre team sell from their Cambridgeshire base, suitably equipped with BTB Exhausts of course. Short’s driving partner in the British GT Mosler is Gregor Fiskin who also sampled a BTB Exhaust on a Ferrari 246S he drove at the Le Mans Classic meeting..
